KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah Tuesday said Panama leakes must be probed independently but democratic system cannot be disrupted under this pretext. “The people of Pakistan have paid huge price for the democracy and nobody would be allowed to derail the system,” he told reporters after performing grounding breaking of a road here. “Rumour-mongers keep attempting to roll back democracy but they will never succeed in their designs,” he said, and added the people had given mandate to the present assemblies for five years and everyone has to respect that mandate. The chief minister said rumours regarding a proposal to dissolve assemblies were unfounded and baseless. He said dissolution of assemblies for fresh mandate was just a wishful thinking. PPP leader Qamar Zaman Kaira hailed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif’s statement seeking end to corruption for enduring peace and prosperity. “I appreciate the army chief’s remarks in my personal capacity,” he said. “There is a need to adopt a national approach against corruption,” he added. Khan’s remarks came shortly after General Raheel Sharif called for an across the board accountability to uproot corruption and linked it with enduring peace and stability in the country. The army chief said that ongoing war against terrorism and extremism cannot bring enduring peace unless the menace of corruption is uprooted.
