ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday decided to authorise inquiries against former Minister for Excise and Taxation, Sindh Gian Chand Israni for their alleged involvement in accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.
NAB’s Executive Board Meeting – directed by its Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry –took several decisions and authorised anti-corruption inquiries.
An inquiry was authorised against ‘Capital Vision Securities’ – brokers of Pakistan Stock Exchange. The management was accused for allegedly cheating public at large. The complaint was received from Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP).
The meeting also re-authorised investigation against Sher Azam Khan, Ex-Minister for Labour, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Secretary Workers Welfare Board Muhammad Tariq Awan for alleged corrupt practices in acquisition of land measuring 260 kanals and allegedly receipt of commissions and causing a loss of Rs 151.58 million to the national exchequer.
An inquiry was re-authorised against officials of Abdul Wali Khan University for embezzling the university’s funds in procurement of various items including purchase of vehicles.
Two inquiries were also closed. First against officials of Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and second against Muhammad Asim Kurd – Balochistan’s former Minister for Finance – with respect to Suspicious Transaction Report due to lack of incriminating evidence.
Qamar Zaman said that NAB was committed to eradicating corruption from the country by adopting Zero Tolerance Policy through Awareness Prevention and Enforcement Strategy.
He reiterated NAB’s firm resolve to come up to the people’s expectations for corruption-free Pakistan by using all possible resources. He directed all the officials of NAB to put in their best efforts in conduct of complaint verifications, inquiries and investigations against the corrupt on merit.
