LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday declined a petitioner’s request to lift the ban from the screening of Pakistani film “Maalik” and directed the authorities concerned to issue a notice to the petitioner for May 17.
The order was passed by Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza, while hearing a petition challenge the ban on the film, filed by Mehboob Alam. The petitioner said that neither the film contained any un-Islamic injunction nor did it hold any element which was against the country. He maintained that the film highlighted the menace of corruption and added that it had been passed and approved for screening by the censor board.
He requested the court to set aside the impugned ban and issue a stay order until a final decision regarding the main petition is reached. However, the court declined the request to lift the ban and issued notices to the respondents for May 17.
