ISLAMABAD: National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control expressed displeasure over the absence of officials of the Interior Ministry from the meeting on Thursday and decided to move a privilege motion against them.
The meeting also decided to write a letter to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on the matter of the absent officials. Presiding over the meeting, committee chairman Rana Shamim Ahmad Khan and members expressed their concerns over the absent senior officials and their lack of interest in discussing the meeting’s agenda.
The agenda of the meeting was the confirmation of the amendments in illegal dispossession Bill moved by Nisar Ali Khan, the Criminal law bill moved by MNA Aliya Kamran and the anti-Honour Killings Laws moved by MNA Nafisa Shah.
Committee member Naeema Kishwar Khan asked the chairman to wind up the meeting as it was quite astonishing that members of the committee were present but officials of the ministry concerned were absent. Nawab Mohammad Yousuf Talpur said that until a written apology was not tendered, the meeting should not be convened. He also asked the chair to cancel the next meeting of the committee scheduled to be held on July 27.
Aliya Kamran said that the agenda of the meeting was important but the lack of interest of the ministry’s officials was causing unnecessary delays in the proposed amendments. While, Rana Shamim proposed that a letter should be written to the Interior minister to bring the matter of the absent officials into his knowledge.
The chairman of the committee also announced the cancellation of the forthcoming meeting of the committee and also passed a resolution moved by Naeema Kishwar to condemn the explosions occurred in various cities of Saudi Arabia.
Members of the committee termed explosions an attack on the Muslim community and also sympathised with the affected families. The committee also expressed condolences with Nawab Yousaf Talpur, a committee member, over the death of his wife and also prayed for the departed soul.
Other members present in the meeting were MNAs Syed Iftikharul Hassan, Makhdoom Syed Ali Hassan Gillani, Nauman Islam Shaikh, Sher Akbar Khan, Ehsanur Rahman Mazari, Arif Alvi, Syed Asif Hasnain and Ibadullah.
